Dear Members:

Libby CalnonAs the long days of summer give way to frosty mornings and brilliant fall colors on the hills around us, we are reminded of the winter days to come. Higher winter heating bills can be a severe burden for some HREC members.

Fortunately, help is available through HREC’s energy assistance program. Last year, funding was sufficient to help 64 HREC members with their power bills.

Donate to HREC’s Energy Assistance Program

HREC’s energy assistance program is funded through HREC member donations and with unclaimed capital credits. Some members make an annual donation, and others donate a little each month, year-round. Your October HREC bill included a flyer describing the ways to donate, or you can call our office at (541) 354-1233 to set up a recurring donation. Thank you for supporting your fellow HREC members.

Find Out if You Qualify for Energy Assistance

The Mid-Columbia Community Action Council administers our energy assistance program. Assistance is based on household size and income:

Household size Max Annual Income
1 $24,550
2 $32,103
3 $39,657
4 $47,210
5 $54,764

To see if you qualify for assistance, call MCACC at (541) 386-4027 and make an appointment. They are now accepting appointments for seniors and people with disabilities. On December 3, MCCAC will begin scheduling appointments for the general public.

For your appointment with MCACC, you will need to bring:

  • Identification for all adults in the household.
  • Names and birthdates for all household members.
  • Social Security cards for all household members.
  • Income verification for the past 30 days for all household members.
  • Your most current heating bill and your electric bill.

Capital Credit Checks Coming Soon

As a reminder, last month your HREC Board of Directors approved the distribution of $800,000 in capital credits to members for their patronage in 2007. If you were an HREC member in 2007, you should receive your check this month.

On behalf of all of us at HREC, thank you for the opportunity to serve you.
