Spring had a bit of a slow start this year in the valley, but temperatures have finally warmed and the fruit trees have blossomed. Below are a few items to note as we make our way toward a productive summer serving you.
Facility inspections. Warmer and drier weather allows us to perform detailed inspections of the poles, wires, transformers and related equipment that deliver electricity to you. These inspections help us identify weaknesses that could cause outages if not corrected. Each year, we inspect a portion of our service area and make a list of maintenance projects for our crew to complete. This proactive approach helps ensure your service is safe and reliable.
Tree trimming. Tree trimming is another proactive maintenance project. If you see trees growing into the power lines, please call us to report them. We appreciate your cooperation with tree trimming on your property. Trimming or removing trees before they cause outages helps keep our service affordable and reliable.
New substation and transmission line. We are excited about the progress being made on a proposed new substation and transmission line to be located in the Pine Grove area. This project has been considered for some time, and plans are being developed by both Hood River Electric Cooperative and the Bonneville Power Administration. Siting, design and construction are likely to take three to five years. The result will be an electric distribution system that is even more reliable and can accommodate future load growth in both Pine Grove and Odell.
Member survey. We wish to thank all of our members who completed our 2019 member survey. We will provide a summary of the results in next month’s Ruralite and announce winners of the drawing for the five $100 bill credits. Your feedback will help your board of directors and staff finalize our strategic plan and goals for the next few years.
On behalf of everyone here at HREC, we wish you a safe and happy summer.
