Dear Members,

It’s mid-January as I write this, and we are kicking off 2019 with our annual audit. Staff members from our audit firm, Friend & Reagan PC, are onsite to examine our accounting records and transactions for 2018. Their work will culminate in publication of year-end financial statements and their audit report.

The reports for Hood River Electric Cooperative and Communications Access Cooperative will be presented to your boards of directors at their February meetings. Our auditors will attend the annual membership meetings in March to review the annual financial reports with the membership.

Another important task this month is setting the date for our annual membership meetings. The boards of directors for HREC and CACHE select dates for these meetings, which are held in March. You will be mailed a formal notification of the date, time and place for each meeting well in advance.

Your HREC Board of Directors also establishes a nominating committee each year. This committee nominates candidates for positions on the HREC Board of Directors. The terms of three directors expire each year. Members fill the director positions by electing or re-electing fellow members from the list of candidates identified by the nominating committee. Candidates can file a petition, as specified in the bylaws, or be nominated from the floor at the annual meeting. Members must attend the annual meeting to cast their votes.

Your co-op directors and staff aim to be good stewards of your cooperative by ensuring the business is financially sound, and the infrastructure that serves you is well-maintained and sufficient to meet the needs of the community. We look forward to serving you in 2019 and beyond.
