As the year winds to a close, I have three topics to share with you.
Office Hours Change January 1
This spring, we surveyed members to get feedback on our operations. One question we asked was about our office hours. Most members had no opinion on this topic. For those with a preference, extended office hours were preferred over our current schedule.
Beginning January 1, our office hours will be Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The office will be closed Fridays.
Many utilities in the region have switched to this schedule, which enables members to visit the office before or after their own workdays. The utilities that have switched report productivity is the same or better, and costs are the same or lower. If this change has unintended consequences or if the membership as a whole is less satisfied, we will switch back.
Our emergency services remain available 24 hours a day, seven days a week by calling 541-354-1233.
Energy Assistance Program
This time of year, energy bills can climb as the temperature drops. These higher winter heating bills can be a severe burden for some Hood River Electric Cooperative members. Fortunately, help is available through HREC’s energy- assistance program.
This program is funded through donations from members like you, and by capital credits that go unclaimed. Some members make an annual donation, and others donate a little each month. If you’d like to set up a recurring donation, please call us at 541-354-1233.
Thank you for your support of your fellow HREC members.
Capital Credits Update
In September, your HREC Board of Directors authorized the return of $541,968 in capital credits to members. We retired the remainder of the 2007 capital credits and 50% of the 2008 capital credits. If you were an HREC member in 2007 or 2008, you should have received your check within the past few weeks.
On behalf of the board and staff at HREC, thank you for the opportunity to serve you. We wish you a happy and prosperous new year.
